Traveling from Orange Capital to the Financial Capital of India: Nagpur to Mumbai

Nagpur is best known by the epithet ‘The Orange Capital of India’ because it’s a leading cultivator and trading center of oranges. This city is a fast growing IT hub as well and is situated in the Deccan Plateau in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Nagpur is also the second capital of Maharashtra. This city is 837 kilometers away from Mumbai, 1094 kilometers from Delhi, 1092 kilometers from Chennai and 1140 kilometers from Calcutta. The location of Nagpur is more or less at the centre of the country and that is why it has the Zero Mile Marker. The city was built by the Gond King of Deogad, Bakht Buland Shah, in 1703. The city derived its name from the Nag River which flows across the region.

Mumbai is the capital city of Maharashtra best known as ‘The Dream City’. It’s the home of Bollywood, the biggest film industry of Asia, which has produced a number of internationally acclaimed movies. Mumbai city is known to be the most populated city in India. The city is known to be a natural port and has a side adjoining the Arabian Sea. Mumbai has been named as an ‘Alpha world city’ in the year 2009 and has the highest GDP among South, West and Central Asian cities.

Indigo and Air India have flights operating from Nagpur to Mumbai every day. Both cities are situated in Maharashtra and thus the journey duration is barely one and a half hour. You will find a number of buses running on this route at a very reasonable ticket rate. Buses take around 12 hours of time but the journey is pretty comfortable. You will find a variety of buses such as Volvo, Deluxe etc plying between the two cities and you can choose any bus according to your budget. Trains such as Hatia Express, Gitanjali Express, Sewagram Express, Nandigram Express, Vidarbha Express, Nagpur Duronto.

Once you’re in Mumbai, do remember to visit the most important places-‘The Gateway of India’ and ‘Marine Drive’. Both these places are like the pulse of Mumbai and reflect the culture, tradition and historical importance of the lively city.
