Jaipur’s Heritage Gardens

Jaipur is a city located close to the Thar Desert in the Rajasthan state of India which is situated in the north western part of the country. One might think that Jaipur is as barren as its neighboring regions but that is not the case. The city of Jaipur is known by its nickname which is ‘Pink City’. Jaipur is particularly famous for its forts, monuments, temples and gardens which increase its overall tourist value. Jaipur has many gardens which are natural while others are artificial.

Jaipur is the city of art and culture and many people from different parts of the world visit the city because of its historical richness. Jaipur is also well known for its havelis and forts which cover the city. These days these are being converted into luxury hotels where people can experience the best of both worlds; i.e. traditional Jaipur with a modern touch.

There are certain gardens that are a part of the heritage of this Rajasthani city. Kanan Vrindavan Valley is a really exotic place in Jaipur city  that is located on the way to Amer Fort. It lies under the Nahargarh hills and the whole garden is bounded by well known tourist sites such as Amer Palace and Jaigarh Fort. The entire region is surrounded and covered by greenery.

Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh is another beautiful garden that lies at a distance of almost 10 kms from the lovely city of Jaipur. This tourist destination is located on the Agra highway. This garden was constructed by the Maharaja of Amber known as Sawai Jai Singh. This was built in the year 1728 for his second queen named Sisodia.

This garden is a symbol of the king’s love for his beautiful wife. The love story of Radha and Krishna are portrayed in the many paintings in this garden. Radha and Krishna are mythological entities of Mahabharata which is a Hindu mythology. These characters are also prayed as god and they beautify the garden walls.

It should be remembered that Sawai Jai Singh is a very important person in the history of the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur. This is because he is the one who built the city with the help of the chief architect of his empire named Vidyasagar Bhattacharya.

The reasons why the king was forced to consider building this completely new city were the lack of water in the city of Amber and the increasing population of his kingdom. Jaipur is in fact the first planned city of India and was initially built as a walled city. Also, the city was built according to the vastu shastra which is better known as the science of architecture of the Vedic people.
