Goa is everything that is quite different from other parts of the country although it is certainly an integral part of India. Goa is located in the western part of the country in the coastal region next to the Arabian Sea. 

The state is best known for its role in the country’s tourism. Often known as the ideal beach destination with its laid back atmosphere, amazing seafood and various water sports in the region such as sailing, paragliding and water skiing. Goa is at least the ideal beach destination in India and has many beaches lining the entire western coast of the country from north to south. 

The most visited beach is of course the Baga beach where the Sunburn Festival takes place every year. This is a very popular festival among youngsters and trance music lovers. This region is well known to have been occupied by the Portuguese traders who set up an empire known as the Portuguese India. They had initially visited parts of the country looking for scope of trade and any commercial possibility. When they realized that this country is rich in these fields, they decided to settle down in the region. Their rule went on for almost 450 years and after that India occupied these regions in the year 1961. 

The capital of Goa is Panaji although the capital of the state was Old Goa originally. This had to be shifted because of the unrelenting epidemic that had struck this city. That is when Panaji was made the capital. The airport of Goa is located centrally within the state and is the military as well as civilian airport.

 This is located in a region called Dabolim which is 29 kilometers away from the capital of the state. During the winter season, the airport sees a large number of chartered flights. This Is because this is the peak time of the year for Goa. The months of November to February is the time when Goa is comparatively less hot and humid and is the on season. During the other times of the year, this part of the country experiences the coastal kind of weather which is mostly hot and humid since it is located next to the sea. 

There are many places in Goa that you might love to visit if you are traveling to the place for the first time. The first thing you might want to do is visit some of the popular beaches of the state.Each beach has a unique characteristic quite different from the other. It is difficult to generalize these beaches. Margao, Panaji and Ponda are some towns of Goa you must consider visiting if you are in the state.
