Bangalore: The City of Parks

Bangalore is a city of IT companies and known for its many opportunities related to the public as well as private sector. The city is also known to have people from all corners of the world because of the same reason. Bangalore city is known by the name Silicon Capital of India or IT Capital of India for the same reason. One of the main characteristics of the region is the eclectic nature of its culture. The different people coexisting in the region coming from different backgrounds has also led to the setting up of numerous restaurants serving a variety of food of origin belonging to different sections of the country. There are a number of Darshinis in the region which serve proper south Indian food. 

Bangalore is situated on the Deccan Plateau and that is believed to be the reason behind why the region experiences pleasant weather almost throughout the year. Bangalore has a population of 8.5 million people according to a survey done in the year 2011. Bangalore is the third most populated city of the country and the eighteenth most populated city in the world. 

Bangalore ranks second after New Delhi in the list of the fastest growing metropolises in the country. The city had a growth rate of 38% during the whole decade from 1991 to 2001. The residents of the city are known by the name ‘Bangaloreans’ in the English language and ‘Bengaloorinavaru’ in the Kannada language. Kannada is the vernacular language of the whole state of Karnataka.

 Many people from other parts of the state have also migrated to this cosmopolitan city because of the many opportunities available here in the public as well as private sector. According to the census that happened in the year 2001, almost 80% of the population followed the Hindu religion. This ratio is almost equal to the country’s national average. The city is also known by the epithet ‘Garden City of India’. This is because of the many gardens designed in the city. Some examples of well known gardens in the city are Cubbon Park and Lal Bagh. 

Bangalore is also where the Kannada film industry is located. This industry produces about 80 Kannada movies each year. The city also celebrates Bangalore Karaga also known as “Karaga Shaktyotsava” every year which is the oldest festival of this part of the country. Deepavali known as the ‘Festival of Lights’ is also an important festival of this region. Bangalore was also known as the third best city in the world. Bangalore’s culture is different from that of the conventional culture of other parts of the country. The city is popularly known by the name ‘Pub City of India’.
