Agra to Delhi Travel Guide

Agra is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the world probably because it’s one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Agra is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh located around 202 kilometers from Delhi, the capital city of India. Agra is also home to many historical monuments and forts such as Fatehpur Sikhri and Agra fort. 

This city was named the capital of many empires such as Lodhis and Mughals. Taj Mahal where the tomb of Mumtaz Mahal lies was built by her husband Shah Jahan who was the emperor of the Mughal Empire at that point of time. The city of Agra is situated on the bank of the river Yamuna, which is considered to be a very holy river and has many religious and historical connotations. 

Agra was built in 1475 and the monuments, forts and other architectural remains of this area reflect the art, culture and customs of the rulers who ruled this city over the years. Delhi is a constantly advancing metropolitan city with shopping malls, hotels and restaurants populating this city extensively. Delhi is also a budding IT hub of India, after Bangalore and Mumbai. 

Delhi is connected with important cities of the country by the numerous Rajdhani Express trains that move to and from the national capital of the country. Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Qutub Minar are some historical monuments of Delhi. Humayun’s Tomb, Lotus Temple, Safdarjung’s Tomb, Lodi Tomb, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Jantar Mantar are some places that attract many visitors. 

Delhi is best known for its vibrant nightlife. In the past, Delhi was made the capital of Afghan and Rajput Empires. Delhi is a center which is known for its constituent concoction of people from different cultures but what stands out is how people from all these different cultures blend perfectly in this colorful city and become an integral part of it. 

Flights, buses, private cars and trains are some modes connecting the two neighboring cities of Delhi and Agra. There are Kingfisher flights only an hour to reach Delhi. Trains such as Amritsar Express, Malwa Express and Daksin Express ply from Agra to Delhi railway stations daily. These take Rs.250 on an average and just 3 hours to reach the political capital. Private and state buses also connect these cities and help you reach Delhi in just 3 to 4 hours at an affordable cost.
